Comrades Marathon – Muslim Women Participants vs The Modesty Of A Sahaabiyah (Radhiyallahu Anha)
[Part 2]
The son of Hazrat Ummu Khallaad (Radhiyallahu anhuma) was martyred. When she heard about it, she came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) to enquire about his position and reward. Despite being afflicted by the great tragedy of losing her son, her face was still covered with a Niqaab (veil/purdah).
A Sahabi (Radiyallahu anhu) was quite astonished by this and he remarked: “You have come to enquire about your son [who was martyred] yet you [are so composed that you] have still covered your face [in this tragic moment]?”
She replied: “I may have lost my son, but I have not lost my modesty.”
The above incident is recorded in Abu Dawood Shareef
This incident teaches us the level of composure as well as modesty possessed by the Sahaabiyah (Radhiyallahu anha). Now compare that to the Muslim sisters who ran in the comrades marathon:
- What clothes did they wear?
- Were their faces covered?
- Were their ankles covered?
- Were their clothes tight-fitting or loose fitting?
- What was the necessity that drove them onto the Natal roads?
- About whose martyrdom were they running to enquire about in their 80kms running?
If the Sahaabiyah, Hazrat Ummu Khallaad (Radhiyallahu anha) was alive today and witnessed Muslim sisters running the comrades marathon, what would she have done? You think she would had approved such lewd running? You think she would had congratulated and wished-well and showered such Muslim sisters with ‘Du’as’?
