Mass Zikr – For Palestine

Mass Zikr For Palestine

QUESTION: There is a mass zikr for Palestine arranged in Durban. Here are some of the details:

  1. It seems this will be at the beach front.
  2. Motorcades will depart from the Chatsworth cricket oval and from a Masjid in Phoenix.
  3. People are encouraged to attend with their flags, placards, kefiyahs and musallahs or mats.
  4. There will be mixed people of faiths as this poster has the logos of the ANC as well.
  5. There is also a logo of a Bid’ati entity from Natal.
  6. There will be; opening du’aa, short talks, zikr, du’aa.

A few days ago it was a mass tahajjud in Lenz, now a mass zikr in Durban. What’s next? Please offer your comments on these mass functions taking place.

ANSWER: All such mass messes are Bid’ah. All the points above are Haraam. It is Haraam to attend all such mass events. The Haraam is further aggravated by Muslim and non-Muslim women partaking in such Haraam; by non-Muslims partaking in such events and by dubbing such messes in Islamic Themes – such as using the words ‘zikr’, ‘tahajjud’, ‘du’a’, etc.

While many have used the crisis in Gaza to be a means of them connecting to the Masjid, Salaah, Tilaawat, individual Zikrullah, Durood Shareef, Du’a, in short, they have increased in some A’maal. Others, on the other hand, have used this Gaza and Palestine crisis as an excuse to indulge in Haraam, Bid’ah, walks, talks, marches, mass messes – like mass tahajjud, du’a, fasting, etc. – waiving flags, selling Palestine-related items, cake-sales, lemonade, padel sports, pop-up stalls, fun days, etc.

Indeed, making Du’as and engaging in other forms of A’maal will be of a better source of aid for Gaza compared to selling cakes, lemonade, padel sports, waiving flags, etc. Also, indulging in A’maal in a Bid’ah form such as the mass mess we see that is on a rife, will be of no real help to Gaza. Individual A’maal and changing one’s lifestyle into an Islamic way of life in all our domains – business, work, dressing, home, parenting, etc. – is a better option of aid for Gaza.
