15 Thul-Hijjah 1440 / 17 August 2019

Unfortunately, Muslims use any and every occasion, event, auspicious time etc. to turn it into a merry-making, money-making activity. Prior to Ramadhaan, Muslims misuse the Holy and Honourable Name of ‘Ramadhaan’ and dub Haraam Souks and Fetes with it. Pre-Ramadhaan Souks which are common countrywide, is a perfect example. Even smaller towns and countryside-towns have begun to indulge in these type of events.

Then, prior to Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims grab another opportunity for indulging in intermingling, partying and outing under the banner of ‘Eid Shopping Festivals’.

Regarding Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims have not spared this Great Day! Muslims have taken hold of this Blessed Day with both hands and dub fun-fares, fetes, auctions and Souks under the Holy Name of ‘Qurbani’!

Sadly, the fun-fares, fetes and Souks prior to Qurbani have an animal flavour to soothe one’s Nafs. Since Qurbani involves animals, Shaitaan has managed to hoodwink Muslims into arranging such ‘farm-type-auctions’ under the banner of ‘purchasing one’s Qurbani animals’.

A Muslim who is sincere in understanding Deen in its Pristine Purity, requires NO evidence, explanations or articles and newsletters which are furnished with the Ahaadith etc., in order to know the reasons for the impermissibility of such un-Islamic events, fun-fares and shopping / auctioning sprees.

Alhamdulillah, in few of our previous articles discussing the topic of Souks, we have explained in lengthy discussions the various forms of sins and vices Muslims are involved in when attending such events. Do write to us to receive those articles.

At such fun-fares, Souks and Qurbani auctions, intermingling, un-Islamic dressing, women with no Hijaab, many with loose hair, tight fitted western clothes, etc. are some of the evil norms which take place. These are just a few sins in such events, all dubbed under an Islamic Name such as ‘Qurbani’.

While we are encouraged to keep the spirit of Qurbani alive, this spirit cannot remain alive in arranging Qurbani fun-fairs and auctions.

The spirit of Qurbani is based on ‘Qurbani’, which means sacrifice. We have to sacrifice the western lifestyles we have adopted in our dressing, homes and manners. Our gaze has to be on the sacrifices of Nabi Ibrahim (Alaihis salaam), his wife and son.

In the episode of Nabi Ibrahim (Alaihis salaam) leaving with his son to sacrifice him, there is not even a second in which any Law of Allah Ta’ala was broken! Even Shaitaan, who attempted to stop this Great Sacrifice, was pelted! Shaitaan then went to Hazrat Haajar (Alaihas salaam) to convince her to stop her husband from fulfilling the Great Law of Allah Ta’ala. However, Shaitaan was dealing with a great Aabidah (worshipper of Allah), Saabirah (patient) and Muttaqiyah (Allah-fearing) wife of a great Nabi, a Nabi whose title was Khaleelullah. Thus, she ignored Shaitaan’s attempts to break the Command of Allah Ta’ala.

In this story which is the background of Qurbani, every moment, second and split-second was in the obedience of the Command of Allah Ta’ala – to slaughter the son of Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaihis salaam), viz. Nabi Ismail (Alaihis salaam).

That is the spirit of Qurbani! To uplift the Laws of Allah Ta’ala! To place a knife on our views, logics, opinions, un-Islamic manners, western dressings, Kuffar worshipping, sport loving, intermingling, merry-making etc. and slaughter all of it, in obedience to the Laws of Allah Ta’ala.

Whereas, at a Qurbani fun-fair/fete/Souk/auction, the total opposite happens. Instead of uplifting the Laws of Hijaab, we destroy the Law of Hijaab and mingle and chat with the opposite gender, by rubbing shoulders with them, gazing at them etc., all under the Name of ‘Qurbani’.

Islam is not a ball to play and kick around. Neither are the Shi’aar (signs) of Islam so cheap that we may misuse them in order to ‘legalize’ sins. Thus, naming any event with any Islamic term in which numerous Laws of Allah Ta’ala are demolished, is Haraam.

Pre-Qurbani fun-fares, auctions and fetes are likewise dens of sins and evils, under the misused name of Qurbani. Every Muslims should incumbently abstain from such events.

May Allah Ta’ala guide us and keep us on Siraatal-Mustaqeem, Aameen.
