Video Calls?

Question: I want to know if it is permissible to use video calls? I am asking because this is so common, even during Tawaaf people are video calling. Has videos and photography become Halaal?

Answer: Not everything what everyone does is Halaal. Majority means nothing to Deen. Islam began with just a handful sincere individuals. Soon a time will dawn in which the minority of Muslims will be practicing Muslims. Hence the Hadith calls them ‘Ghuraba’ (the forlorn ones). The Hadith says, “Islam began Ghareeb (in a forlorn state – just a handful sincere Muslims) and will soon return again as Ghareeb. Rejoice (glad tidings be to the) Ghuraba!”

Whatever happens at the Holy Places are no proof when they contradict the Hadith.

Video calling is Haraam just as photography of animated objects is Haraam. We follow what Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, Fuqaha, and the great Imaamat of the Ummah and not what flimsy justifications modern Ulama 1400 years thereafter present.
