Bid’ah Mass Tahajjud – Beware!
QUESTION: There is a mass tahajjud for Palestine arranged soon at Rainbow Masjid, in Lenasia. The following are the details on the poster:
- On the top of the poster is written ‘dua is the weapon of a believer’.
- Men are called to the Masjid on the specific day from 3am.
- Individual ibaadat is to be made from 3am to 3.50am.
- Thereafter there will be a discussion on the current crisis. Thereafter will be Fajr salaah.
- This initiative is supported by LMA, JUSA, Crescent of Hope and CII.
Should we join such mass tahajjuds, du’as, national day of fasting, etc.?
ANSWER: Mass Tahajjuds are Bid’ah. Similarly, mass Du’as, mass days of fasting, mass Jumu’ahs, etc. are also Bid’ah and Haraam just as marching and protesting are Haraam. The above stunt is indeed inspired by Shaitaan directly. It is impermissible and a Bid’ah to call people to a Masjid for an Ibaadat that is supposed to be performed privately – a Nafl Ibaadat (Tahajjud Salaah). Tahajjud and the A’maal at the time of Tahajjud are to be made at home, in the privacy of one’s house, in an atmosphere of silence and Khalwat (seclusion).
Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) warned, “Every Bid’ah is Dhalaalah (deviation). And every Dhalaalah will be Fin-Naar (in the Fire of Jahannam).”
There were indeed great battles that were fought in the era of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and the Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu anhum). Never did any of them during any of those important battles between Imaan and Kufr ever arrange, or hallucinate to arrange a ‘mass tahajjud’ in Masjid-e-Nabawi, or any other Masjid. Thus, the way of life of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and the examples in the eras of the Khulafaa-e-Raashideen are adequate for us to follow. Nowhere can we, nor the initiators of the Bid’ah ‘mass tahajjud’ source and find any such reference where a ‘mass tahajjud’ was arranged for people.
The mere fact that JUSA is part of the initiators, should make one wary and stay far, very far away from their programs! It doesn’t matter who the initiators may be, we have to look at the Shari’ah. CII, Crescent of Hope, LMA and JUSA are no ‘Daleel’ in the Shari’ah.
