QUESTION: Is it permissible to accept and attend an invitation by the Hindus during their Diwaali? I’m asking because a Muslim organization that collects money for disasters, wars, etc. was invited and the Muslim uncle in charge of this organization attended. The Instagram page of this organization shows their Diwaali message together with the haram photo of the person in charge of this organization.
- Can we still contribute to such an organization?
- Is it allowed to attend such a function?
- Is photography allowed at such a venue?
Your answers will be appreciated, shukran!
ANSWER: How can it ever be permissible to attend the Kufr festive ceremonies, celebrations, etc. of other religions? The only religion of Haq is Islaam. ALL other religions are KUFR. This is the explicit message of the Qur’an Majeed.
Our pious and senior Ulama-e-Haq have said, “To be happy with Fisq (disobedience), one becomes part of the Fisq. To be happy with Kufr, one becomes part of the Kufr.”
The entire Surah Kaafiroon negates the organisation’s Haraam in which they graced the podium of a venue in which Kufr was celebrated. And this is not restricted to only Diwali! It applies to ALL – every single Kufr festivity of ANY religion. Hence, the Muslim community should bring to the immediate notice of this organisation of its committing such a grave open and public major sin by gracing a venue in the theme of Kufr and Shirk – i.e. Diwali.
The answer to all your questions is ‘NO’. For as long as no clear public Taubah is issued from any organisation – be it a charity organisation attending Diwali events or a council of scholars such as UUCSA, JUSA, Radio ‘Islam’, MJC, Darul-Ihsan, and anyone else who supported the closure of the Masaajid – abstain from contributing to them.
