QUESTION: How should the Sunnah ceremony be when opening a new Masjid?
ANSWER: There is NO ceremony when opening a new Masjid.
A Masjid’s only opening ‘ceremony’ is the Athaan and the Salaah, nothing more.
When Masjid-e-Quba was built, Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) did not organize any opening ceremony.
During the Khilaafat of Ameerul-Mu’mineen, Hazrat Umar (Radhiyallahu anhu), Islam had spread far and wide. According to some Ulama, four thousand Masaajid were established in his Khilaafat.
However, nowhere do we find any narration mentioning that for any of those Masaajid he organized an opening ceremony in which senior Sahaabah were invited to attend and give talks at such ceremonies.
May Allah Ta’ala grant the Ummah Hidayat in this matter, Aameen.
