When Imaam Shaafi (Rahmatullah alaihi) left San’aa (in Yemen) for Makkah Mukarramah, he had with him 10,000 (gold coins). He was advised to invest the money productively.
On arrival in Makkah Mukarramah, he set up a small tent for himself on the outskirts of Makkah Mukarramah. He emptied the bag of gold coins into a heap. Everyone who came to the tent was given a handful of dinars by Imaam Shaafi.
By the time of Zuhr, he stood up, dusted his clothes and left. Not a single dinar remained.
