Question: Since it is the month of Rabiul-Awwal, there are talks given on the Seerat of Hazrat Muhammed Mustafaa Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam. However, I’ve seen a poster of a talk to be given on the Seerat by a Maulana whom our senior Ulema of the Haqq of South Africa disagree with in many matters, such as his appearing on TV, his calling for the closure of the Musaajied before lockdown, his standing under crosses, his attending interfaith meetings, and the list goes on. Please comment on such Seerat talks conducted by such Maulanas.
Answer: The Mubaarak Seerah of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) should be studied throughout the year and should not be limited and restricted to only Rabi-ul-Awwal. The Ulama-e-Haq very rarely arrange special lectures on the Seerah during Rabi-ul-Awwal. The most we will find is that they will use their Majaalis platforms to touch on the topic of the Seerah of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). This is because their Ta’leem encourages one to read the Seerah the entire year and to endeavor to instill the Sunnats in one’s life. And this is not limited and restricted only to the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
Thus, the famous saying of some of our senior Ulama is, ‘Make the Seerat into Soorat’. Which means that one should implement the Ta’leem taught to us in the Seerah of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) into our lives – Seerah should not be restricted to only talks and reading books.
Lastly, just like the author of any book has an effect on the reader, so too orators have an effect on the listeners. This ‘effect’ may make one’s thinking, believing, etc. like that of the author or orator. Thus, refrain from attending Seerah talks delivered by scholars who are involved in the activities as you have mentioned. There is no room for any of those activities in the Mubaarak Seerah of Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam)! Instead, adopt the company of the Ulama-e-Haq so that their effect can boost one’s Imaan, Akhlaaq and A’maal.
