Selling Valentine’s Day Products?

Question: Is it allowed for a Muslim businessman to sell Valentine’s day products in his shop, or online?

Answer: It is Haraam to sell or advertise Valentine’s Day products in one’s shop or online. Valentine’s day is a day of Zina. Illicit relationships and Zina takes place on a large scale on this day. Besides that, this day has church origins.

Allah Ta’ala commands in the Qur’an Majeed, “And do not assist one another in sins.” Hence, selling Valentine’s products, aids the community in involving themselves in Zina.

It is indeed sad to note how Muslim businessmen have lost almost all regard in terms of Halaal Haraam items, (Riba) interest deals, Islamic and un-Islamic affairs in their businesses. During Christmas, New Year, Easter etc. we will find Muslim businesses decorate their shops with slogans and placards, balloons and posters with ‘Merry Christmas’, ‘Happy New Year’ etc. phrases boldly engraved on them.

It is the duty of the Ulama and Imaams of the communities to speak out against such activities which affects Muslim businesses. But because of the modern Ulama who also participate in Haraam interfaith ceremonies and politicians’ funerals etc. hence, the masses understand one should entertain all religions’ holy occasions. This is totally incorrect.
