Question: I have read and heard from some Ulama, organisations of Ulama and Islamic radios encouraging Muslims to vote. I look at it in this way that when Muslims vote, they voting for kufaar to come into power, thus their voting is like supporting the kufaar. What do you advise?
Answer: Ignore the call of the Ulama and Islamic radios who encourage Muslims to vote in Kuffaar politics. We are not obliged under any law (in SA) to vote. Furthermore, voting in a Kuffaar politics means one supports all their laws. Legalizing liquor, dagga, being gay etc. – just to mention a few – are among the Kuffaar governments’ approvals which on the other hand are Haraam in Islaam. Alhamdulillah, your understanding is correct. Unfortunately, many Ulama in our current era are behaving like politicians.
Be wary from where you learn your Deen.
