4 Thul-Hijjah 1441 / 25 July 2020
Our Stance On The Thul-Hijjah Hilaal
We had received several queries regarding the Islamic date. In this regard, our stance is that the new moon (Hilaal) for the month of Thul-Hijjah 1441 was sighted on Tuesday – 21 July 2020 – after Maghrib, by a group of Muslims in a small town in the Northern Cape. We will mention the following points for those who want to know our stance regarding Thul-Hijjah’s Hilaal:
- The Hilaal was sighted by the naked eye by a group of Muslims in a small town of Groblershoop, in the Northern Cape. This group – which is dedicated to the work of sighting the new moon and which goes out at the end of every Islamic month for the last few years – then gave its Khabar (information/news) to the Hilaal Committee they are part of, i.e. Majlisul-Ulama Hilaal Committee.
- This was then confirmed by the Majlisul-Ulama regarding whom even their enemies aver that they have a very high Standard of Tafaqquh (deep and thorough understanding) of the Shari’ah. Accordingly, Majlisul-Ulama made the news public that the moon was sighted by their Hilaal Committee member from Northern Cape.
- Upon receiving this news which we accept to be reliable and which we have confidence in, we sent out a message stating that Thul-Hijjah 1441 will begin from Maghrib on Tuesday, 21 July 2020, and that Eid-ul-Adha will be on Friday, 31 July 2020. Likewise, we also sent out the calendar of Thul-Hijjah 1441 confirming these dates.
- After The Majlis’s announcement was made confirming the sighting of the Hilaal, UUCSA – the friends of the court – who generally announce the moon sightings on their radio-stations – the very same ones that flagrantly defy the Laws of Allah Ta’ala regarding Hijaab by allowing female presenters and young women to air their sweet and alluring voices on-air, thereby planting the ‘lethal’ seeds of ‘fantasies’ in the hearts of the men who are interviewed or who listen to their programs, rejected the sighting.
- We reiterate our stance that the Hilaal for Thul-Hijjah WAS sighted on Tuesday night by a group of Muslims of a town in the Northern Cape. We have no doubt in this sighting and no reason for not accepting and/or for delaying the day of Eid for any reason. Therefore, the following is according to us:
1st Thul-Hijjah 1441 began on 21 July 2020, after Maghrib Salaah.
The day of Arafat – i.e. the 9th Thul-Hijjah – will be on Thursday, the 30th July 2020. Insha Allah.
The Takbeer-e-Tashreeq will begin on Thursday, after Fajr Salaah. Insha Allah.
Eid-ul-Adha will be on Friday, the 31st July 2020. The two days thereafter are also regarded as the days of Eid. Insha Allah.
The Takbeer-e-Tashreeq will stop after the Asr Salaah on Monday, the 3rd August 2020. Insha Allah.
