Valentine’s Day

6 Jamaadal Aakhir 1440 / 12 February 2019

“And come not near to Zina (fornication). Verily, it is a Fahishah (an immoral act), and an evil way.” (Isra, Aayat 32)

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Adultery of the eyes is when it looks [at that which is Haram], adultery of the ears is when it listens [to Haram], adultery of the tongue is uttering [Haram], adultery of the hand is touching [what is impermissible to touch], adultery of the feet is when it walks [towards Haram]” (Muslim)

“He who imitates a nation is one of them.” (Abu Dawood)

Do you know the origin of Valentine’s day?

As a Muslim, it is important to be aware from where this day originates from. Read the following extract which has been searched from the internet and think and ponder, are Muslims supposed to have anything to do with this day?

“The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honoured by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.”

It is indeed sad to note how many youngsters, and adults as well, are caught up in the disguised Zina on Valentine’s day. The Kuffaar, with the help of Shaitaan, have managed to trap many Muslims in the net of Zina.

As Muslims, we have to detach ourselves from the lifestyle of the Kuffaar. Their ‘love’ and ‘gifts’ are related and restricted to special days and events. On the other hand, Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam encourages gifts and presents to be given at any day of the year, in order for Muhabbat (mutual love) to spread in the following blessed words: “Give gifts to each other, you will love each other.”

Hence, days which the Kuffaar specially design for gifting etc. like mother’s day, father’s day, Valentine’s day etc. should not affect the Ummah. The Ummah is encouraged by Nabi Sallalalhu alahi wasallam to keep on giving gifts as per one’s ability, throughout the year, by virtue of which Muhabbah will be created among the Ummatis, Insha Allah.

We call upon every parent to untangle his/her child from these ploys of Shaitaan and the Kuffaar, where they (the Kuffaar) encourage everyone to give gifts to their ‘Valentines’.

The valentine relationship is a Haraam relationship. It is a relationship between a non-Mahram boy/youngster/adult with a non-Mahram girl/woman, and this relationship is Haraam in Islaam.

The demand of the Qur’an is that each member of his/her respective gender should observe Hijaab from the opposite gender who are non-Mahram to him/her. In this regard, Allah Ta’ala’s Command is clear in the following explicit Aayah:

“Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze… And tell the believing women to lower their gaze.” [Surah an-Nur: Ayah 30]

The rewards and awards for the simple Majestic Command of Allah Rabbul Izzat is mentioned by Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam in the following praiseworthy words:

“Whoever lowers his gaze for Allah, He will bestow upon him a refreshing sweetness, which he will find in his heart on the day he meets Him.” [Mishkat]

Therefore, O Ummah! It is not worth celebrating Valentine’s Day which has Church origins and is a day of Zina. Abide by the Laws of Deen and taste the sweetness of Imaan which is promised by Allah Ta’ala. It is not worth to give a gift on this day at the expense of destroying one’s Aakhirat. These days are days of Zina which are exclusive for the Kuffaar. The Kuffaar’s days and nights rotate around Zina and illicit relationships.

In the light of the above, we announce the following:

It is impermissible to buy any Valentine’s day gift.

It is impermissible to send a Valentine’s day gift.

It is impermissible to wish any person a Happy Valentine’s day.

It is impermissible to sell Valentine’s day products.

May Allah Ta’ala save the Ummah, especially those who are entrapped in illicit affairs, with correct understanding and ability to loosen themselves from this deception, Aameen.
