Question: I would like to know if making a video call is permissible or not?
Answer: EVERYTHING comprising of any form or type of animate picture-making is HARAAM. Video calls too fall under picture-making.
Severe warnings have been sounded of severe Azaab for those involved in any kind of picture-making – whether a video call, TV, You-Tube videos, animate statuses/profiles on WhatsApp, etc.
Our honourable senior Ulama-e-Haq in South Africa who acquired their Islamic Studies at the feet of the Akaabir Ulama-e-Haq of India, brand, understand and regard ALL animate videos, TV, photos, etc. as HARAAM.
The Akaabireen of recent times – the likes of Allaamah Yusuf Binnori Rahimahullah, etc. – were unanimous in branding modern day photography as HARAAM. This was the Fatwa South African Ulama followed for years.
Only recently, when TV-Molvis began appearing on Dajjal’s Eye, they drifted away and shunned this Golden Fatwa of our Akaabireen and appear on TV. However, this doesn’t make HARAAM as HALAAL. We should remain firm and practise on the Fatwa of our Akaabireen by FULLY keeping away from ALL animate picture-making – video calls, You-Tube, TV, selfies, etc.
