JUSA’s SG’s Audio Clip – ‘Being Innovative’

Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The most evil matters in Deen are those that are newly invented…” (Nasaai)

As the following statement which we have discussed – with the Fadhl of Allah Ta’ala and the Du’as of well-wishes – in our previous parts (part 1 to 3) which was made by JUSA’s SG (secretary general), we hereby intend to further comment on this same statement:

Jusa’s SG said:

“It teaches us from Seerah that if you get something new, and it is beneficial, you adopt it … If it is something that is beneficial, you go and take it.”

Our comments: Allah Ta’ala clearly announces in His Glorious Kalaam, the Qur’an Majeed, the following Aayat: “Today, I (Allah) have perfected your Deen for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen Islam as your way.” (Maaidah, Aayat 3)

Some facts and brief background regarding the above Aayat are worth revising:

  1. This Aayat was revealed on the 9th Dhul-Hijjah, the day of Aarafah, in the 10th year of Hijrah.
  2. The day coincided with a Friday.
  3. The time of revelation was after Asr. This is indeed a noble time, especially on Fridays.
  4. The place of revelation was close to Jabl-e-Rahmah (the Mount of Rahmah), in Arafah.
  5. The gathering of Muslims consisted the largest gathering for the first time, for Hajj.
  6. The Muslims (i.e. Sahaabah Radhiyallahu anhum) numbered approximately 150 000.
  7. Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was making Wuqoof when this Aayat was revealed.
  8. This was the FINAL AAYAT dealing with the AHKAAM OF DEEN, as stated by the Mufassir of the Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu anhum), Hazrat Ibn Abbas (Radhiyallahu anhu).
  9. The above point clearly states that this Aayat was as if to CLOSE THE DOOR to ANY INNOVATION introduced in Deen!
  10. Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) lived for about 80 days after this Aayat was revealed.

The above clearly shows to each and everyone, that nothing ‘something new’ can be introduced into Deen, neither can it be ‘adopted’ even if it seems to be ‘beneficial’ unless the Shari’ah approves of it. Hence, even if scientists sing the song of how much ‘benefit’ that ‘something new’ may have till the Day of Qiyaamah, as long as the Shari’ah doesn’t approve of it, true and genuine Muslims will not be moved even one millimetre into ‘adopting’ that ‘something new’. Hence, one cannot pass a blanket rule that ‘something new’ which is ‘beneficial’ should be ‘taken’ in order to become ‘innovative’ and to be ‘in the forefront’ since the Ummah has ‘become weak’ in the last 300 years (in SA, by not becoming innovative – as JUSA’s SG says further on in the clip). Our benefits, victory and strength lie in the Ahkaam of the Shari’ah which are filled with Hikmat, even though we may not understand!
