Eid-ul-Fitr Sunnats

  1. To wake up early.
  2. To take a Ghusl (Bath).
  3. To use the Miswaak.
  4. To apply Itr.
  5. To wear one’s best Sunnah and Islamic clothes (don’t have to be new).
  6. To eat something sweet (e.g. dates) before the Eid Salaah.
  7. To discharge one’s Sadaqatul Fitr before the Eid Salaah.
  8. To perform Eid Salaah at the Eidgah – a venue approved by the Shari’ah.
  9. To walk to the Eidgah. However, there is no harm in using transport if the Eidgah is far.
  10. To recite the Takbeer softly when going to the Eidgah.

Note: There is NO narration mentioning that greeting and embracing after the Eid Salaah with ‘Eid-Mubaarak’ is a Sunnah. Thus, avoid it. Several great Muftis have said it is a Bid’ah. See our answer in the ‘Eid Mubaarak’ Questions and Answer post.
