Haraam Mendhi Nights

‘Mendhi’ Night Is HARAAM – It Taints One’s Imaan!

QUESTION: Recently a Mufti Saab cancelled a Nikaah that was supposed to take place in his Musjid. The reason he provided as was explained in his pamphlet was that the prospective bride and her family organized a Mandhi Night. My questions are:

  1. Was the basis for the cancellation of an entire Nikaah valid merely due to their participating in a Mandhi Night?
  2. Is Mandhi Nights Haraam bearing in mind many Musliems do this?

 Please comment

ANSWER: Such ‘Nights’ are derived from the customs and cultures of the Muskrik Hindus. They have no Islamic basis or backing at all. Regarding imitating other nations, Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) clearly said, “He who imitates a nation, is part of them.”

In order to understand this better, let us assume you are invited to one such Haraam Mendhi Night which is phrased something like this:

“You are cordially invited to attend a Mendhi Night on …”

Now, let us rephrase the above to the following: “You are cordially invited to attend our family’s Christmas Eve celebration …”

Will you attend the invite phrased in the above wording? Similarly, Mendhi Nights are no less than a Kufr ‘Christmas Eve’ invite!

Ulama and Imaams should NOT allow Nikaahs of prospective couples who engage in such HARAAM and de-Imaanizing ‘Nights’ or ‘Days’ which are rooted in Kuffaar ways and have no Islamic connotation – nowhere in the Qur’an Majeed, Hadith Shareef and neither found in the actions of the Sahaabah (Radhiyallahu anhum)!

Yes, it was Islamically CORRECT for the Mufti Saheb to cancel the Nikaah that was to be performed in his Masjid due to the indulgence of the family in a HARAAM Mendhi Night Party which stems from the customs of the Hindus. Not only are such ‘Nights’ Haraam, but they are also de-Imaanizing and pollute one’s Imaan. Even if many do this, it doesn’t become ‘Halaal’.

Remember, tons of Haraam and de-Imaanizing activities take place at such ‘Nights’. We are aware of the participants – LADIES – smoking HARAAM Hookah at that Mendhi Night you queried about. Besides these HARAAM acts, participants don’t have the slightest regard for Hijaab, Sunnah dressing, Sunnah way of meals, etc. All these actions destroy the much-needed Noor in the Nikaah that takes place thereafter.
